Council of the Great City Schools

U.S. school officials such as teachers, nurses and guidance counselors should be fully knowledgeable about female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C).  They need to know how:  a) to identify the risks factors; b) to identify occurrences that have already taken place; c) to confirm risks and occurrences; d) to take steps when risks and occurrences are confirmed; e) to clarify gray areas; f) to know when to act & when not to act.

Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation (GWPF) has partnered with the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) to put in place an educational and prevention resource tool about FGM/C.  The organizations researched the needs assessments in the communities, and decided to put in place a toolkit, which is intended to educate school officials, while preventing the practice and understanding the cultural sensitivities.  On behalf of the Council of the Great City Schools and the Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC), Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation takes great pleasure in presenting to you, the “FGM/C Prevention:  A Resource for U.S. Schools”.  We hope you will find this resource useful in learning about female genital mutilation and cutting.
